FILMING for a new movie set in the heartlands of Yorkshire will begin in the district soon and producers are urging local people to apply to be extras in the film.

‘Destination: Dewsbury’ will be a “coming of middle-age” film set in the Kirklees town, with some filming taking place in Bradford.

It will tell the story of a group of 40-something men who have been friends since school, who take a road trip to Yorkshire after hearing the leader of their schoolboy gang is terminally ill, which inevitably goes horribly wrong.

The film’s producers are describing it as a “crude, rude British comedy with a riotous new take on the traditional road trip movie”.

The average age of the film crew on the upcoming film its just 21 years old, and is the debut feature for many members of the team including director Jack Spring, who is 19 years old and dropped out of university to pursue his dream of becoming a film director.

Mr Spring is encouraging young people with a passion for film-making from Bradford to get in touch to get involved with the film.

Director Jack Spring said: “Destination: Dewsbury is the first time everyone in the crew, including myself, have had the freedom and the funding to achieve what we want, how we want, and it’s been a serious but very exciting learning curve so far.

“Having the opportunity to offer other young people work is an incredible feeling.”

The film is being produced by Bradford-based Circus Productions, and filming will start in mid-September in city, as well as at locations in Batley, Dewsbury, Leeds and York, and the producers are on the look out for people who want to be extras.

Producer Sophie Kingsley said: “We are mainly looking for extras to be in the film, but also a lot of production assistants.

One of the places in Bradford we will be doing filming is Kala Sangam in the city centre.”
