THIS year’s Bradford Literature Festival officially began tonight with a dinner attended by organisers, guests, and authors taking part in the ten day event.

A packed schedule of events starts today, but the event in The Midland Hotel gave the organisers a chance to speak about the celebration of reading with civic dignitaries and other guests.

It is the second year for the festival, but after an Arts Council grant of £495,000 earlier this year, organisers Syima Aslam and Irna Qureshi have been able to massively expand the event.

As well as appearances from top authors, poets, academics and film directors, there will be numerous workshops and storytelling sessions for children, and family events in City Park on both weekends of the festival.

More than 350 guests will take part in the different events, spread out over 20 venues including the National Media Museum, Waterstones, the University of Bradford and City Library.
