Naz Shah, Labour MP for Bradford West, has been appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell.
She used her Facebook profile to announce the news, saying she was "privileged" to accept the new role.
A PPS is a backbench MP appointed by a minister to be his or her assistant.
They are said to be selected to act as the 'eyes and ears' of the minister in the House of Commons.
