TRADING Standards bosses have issued a warning to shopkeepers after illicit tobacco products were discovered in the store room of a Keighley premises.
Officers found packages at Keighley Newsagents, in North Street, which didn't carry the statutory health warnings.
Afzal Patel, 29, of Swinton Place, Bradford, was fined £470 at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court for possessing 2,820 illicit cigarettes and 4.8 kilos of illicit hand rolling tobacco with intention to supply.
West Yorkshire Trading Standards made the discovery after attempting a test purchase at the shop.
Spokesman David Lodge said: "Those dealing in tobacco should ensure that what they are selling is compliant with all relevant UK legislation.
"We operate a zero tolerance approach and will take action on all intelligence received about the illicit tobacco trade.
"I would encourage residents to continue reporting this type of activity via the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 03454 04 05 06."
