A NEW guidebook focusses on the stories of people buried at a Keighley cemetery.
The Bradford Council brochure will highlight tombs, headstones and mausoleums of the Victorian gentry buried in Utley cemetery.
New photos will be taken of the most interesting sites in the massive cemetery, and a guided walk will be organised to tie-in with the book’s publication.
Utterly cemetery, built in 1857, is the oldest council-run cemetery in Bradford district.
Council officers revealed plans for the booklet during their latest meeting with members of Utley Cemetery Action Group.
Group spokesman Charlie Bhowmick said the meeting was “very exciting” and covered a range of issues of concern to members, who were relatives of people buried in the cemetery.
He said members were promised action to clean around the Butterfield Memorial – the tomb for the family that built Cliffe Castle – and by this Monday the work had been carried out.
The former mortuary office near the Roebuck pub on Skipton Road could be turned into a meeting place for the action group.
