Bereaved dad Jack Davies last night tearfully visited the scene of a tragic road accident which claimed the life of his six-year-old daughter Lilly.

Relatives, friends and well-wishers had left more than a dozen bouquets, some of them handmade children's posies, at the junction of Beacon Road and Beacon Place in Wibsey, Bradford, where the little girl was in a collision with a Land Rover Freelander at about 8.30am yesterday.

She sustained serious head injuries and was taken to Leeds Royal Infirmary by air ambulance, but doctors were unable to save her and she died hours later.

Mr Davies told the Telegraph & Argus last night: "I would just like to say she was a beautiful, blonde haired little girl, who was doing very well at school. She will never be forgotten.

"I would like to say thank you to everyone who has brought flowers."

Lilly's uncle, Leon Robinson, added that Lilly was "really bubbly, kind and generous. She was very friendly and polite. Nothing worse than this could have happened, she had never done any harm to anyone."

West Yorkshire Police are investigating the full circumstances of the incident which happened only a short distance from Lilly's home.

Lilly was a pupil at Stocks Lane Primary School in Wibsey and she had moved into Beacon Place with her mum Jenna Hatfield about three months ago.

Mr Davies was separated from Jenna and has a new partner, who visited the crash scene with him.

Beacon Road was closed for several hours while emergency services and accident investigators carried out a detailed examination of the scene.

Sam Malynowsky, of Reevylands Drive, Wibsey, who was working on block paving a front drive on Beacon Road only yards from the incident and said: "I heard it happen and saw a woman screaming. I did not see it.

"I had to run next door to get an ambulance. They were doing CPR on her. "

Sila Patel, who runs a Costcutter store at the junction of Beacon Road and Beacon Place, said the shop's external CCTV system covered the section of road where the tragedy occurred.

"We have had about 20 police in, looking at it, slowing it down and freezing it. They said it was really good evidence," she said.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident, or who saw the Land Rover prior to it, to contact PC 2718 Greenwood at the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101.
