Bradford’s textile heritage will be played out in the window of one of the region’s most exclusive shopping destinations.
A sheep created from chicken wire and wool stands under an umbrella festooned with fabric reflecting the legacy of an animal whose versatility has kept us warm in winter and cool in summer since bygone times.
Wool Yorkshire – an exhibition launching at Harvey Nichols in The Victoria Quarter in Leeds on Monday – is a collaboration between Bradford-based textile group SIL Holdings, one of the largest speciality fibre manufacturers and merchants in the world, and students from Leeds College of Art to celebrate British Wool Week.
The exhibition also features a regal style crown by Millinery graduate Marie Halewood, who fashioned the stylish headpiece from recycled textiles and pattern cards donated by SIL Holdings.
Fellow student, Bonnie Rowntree, used her photography expertise to capture film footage of the processes at the company’s Stanley Mills site in Tong Street, Bradford.
