A new exhibition of photographs and artefacts opens next week at the Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth.
Heaven is a Home will tell the story of those who lived at the parsonage, both before and after the famous literary family.
And it will reveal domestic details of the Brontes’ own time there. Letters, sketches and documents show how the parsonage was organised and decorated, what kind of lighting and heating was used and what housework the occupants did.
The exhibition is linked with the parsonage’s £60,000 historically-accurate refurbishment, unveiled last month, and publication of a book “At Home with the Brontes: The History of Haworth Parsonage and Its Occupants” by collections manager Ann Dinsdale (pictured).
Bronte Society executive director Professor Ann Sumner said: “The history of the house is always fascinating and this unique exhibition helps us understand so much more about the hidden life of the parsonage while the Brontes were here, but also gives us an understanding of its importance to so many other families.”
Heaven is a Home opens next Friday, March 22.
