Police are advising residents to be on their guard against potential scams operating in the area.
Calderdale officers have received reports of people pretending to be from either the Police Authority or West Yorkshire Police or a similar organisation, claiming they are producing a leaflet.
They say the leaflet is about crime problems and ask the person if they want to advertise on it. They usually request £95 for it.
The Police Authority no longer exists, having been replaced by the office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
And West Yorkshire Police does not canvas for advertising in this way, said a spokesman for the West Yorkshire force.
A police spokesman said: “I would always urge people to be aware of callers either at the door or on the phone who are not invited. Take steps to verify the company before parting with money.”
