Police started a murder probe today after a 21-year-old man was found fatally injured in a quiet residential street.
He was found at about midnight in Regent Drive, Skipton. The street was cordoned off by police today and a white tent covered the spot where he was found.
The victim was named by police as Martin Neil Hunn, of Skipton.
North Yorkshire forensic teams were carrying out a detailed search of the area.
A spokesman for the force said: "A 21- year-old local man was injured and later died in Airedale General Hospital, Steeton, following an alleged altercation at about midnight."
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and inquiries were on going, he added.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said the incident had happened only yards from his home.
He said: "We're very close to where the police set up their investigation. Our house backs on to the street but we didn't hear anything at all during the night.
"We have no idea what happened."
Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone who had information to contact Harrogate CID on 0845 6060247.
