Bodyshop experts in Bradford will play a key part in restoring a neglected 33-year-old classic Porsche 911 turbo sports car in a national competition to mark the 40th anniversary of the first turbo engined Porsche production car.

They will work on the car in a bid to help Bradford-based motors group JCT 600 win the competition launched by Porsche Cars.

JCT 600 entered the contest through its Porsche Centre Leeds dealership which struggled to source one of the rare models until customer David Graves offered his 1981 Porsche 911 930 Turbo Coupe which had been stored in a disused garage for 15 years and needs a complete restoration.

Ben Mills, JCT 600 Porsche Centre service manager, said: “We are really excited to have the opportunity to use our specialist restoration skills on such a beautiful and classic model, particularly as the car was originally purchased from JCT600 33 years ago.

“Although the vehicle is in a sad condition now, it has huge potential and we are confident it will be as good as new once our renovation is finished in time to enter the competition in September.

“The body will soon be sent over to the JCT600 body clinic in Bradford where the body shell will be stripped back to bare metal while the team at Porsche Centre Leeds get to work on stripping the engine, gearbox and all the running gear prior to a complete rebuild.”

The competition winners will be announced in October .

Twenty JCT 600 luxury car customers travelled part of the Tour de France Grand Depart route in style travelling in a convoy of Bentley cars along part of the route. The event was organised in conjunction with tourism body Welcome to Yorkshire and raised funds for JCT 600’s designated 2014 charity the Association of Young People with ME.

Michael Carr, general manager of JCT600’s Leodis Court Bentley dealership, said: “Like much of the county, we’re really excited that Yorkshire will soon be welcoming the world’s greatest cycle race.

“However, many of our customers prefer to travel in style on four wheels rather than two, so we organised this more leisurely tour, taking in the beauty of the Yorkshire countryside the cyclists will ride through.”

Gary Verity, Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive, added: “As one of our Y30 corporate partners, we work closely with JCT600 to champion Yorkshire and we were delighted to join forces with them once again to co-host this stylish tour-themed event.”

Meanwhile, JCT 600’s Brooklands Maserati dealership has been chosen from 25 across Northern Europe for the Simply the Best accolade for outstanding after sales service It was one of only two UK Maserati dealers to be recognised.
