A MAN escaped from his van after he spotted smoke coming from the back of his vehicle.
The quick-thinking driver of the Citroen Berlingo saw the smoke in his mirror and managed to stop the vehicle in Birkenshaw Lane, Birkenshaw, Bradford.
He did not suffer any injuries or smoke inhalation and managed to safely stop the vehicle.
Fire crews from Cleckheaton and Batley were called to the incident at around 3.30pm yesterday.
Dan Gledhill, watch commander of Cleckheaton Fire Station, said the man, who was the only person in the vehicle, made a quick escape from the van and was in a "perfectly fine" condition when the fire crews arrived.
He said: "The driver saw smoke coming out of the back of his van.
"He managed to stop and was safe. He then climbed out of the van quite quickly after stopping it.
"He was perfectly fine. He had no injuries or smoke inhalation.
"He also managed to get out well in time and a passer-by then rang for help."
